Heck yes, you can.
There’s this outdated idea that once you hit 40, it’s all downhill. Like you should trade your dumbbells for knitting needles and just accept weakness as your new identity.
Let’s squash that right now: You can get stronger at ANY age. In fact, with the right training, people in their 50s, 60s, 70s (and beyond) can build serious strength and keep it for decades.
Here’s the deal:
- If you don’t use it, you lose it.
- If you do use it, you can build it – the body is so adaptable with the right stimulus!
Sedentary people? They start weak and get weaker. That’s the sad truth.
But active people who train consistently? They age like fine wine. Strong, capable, and far more independent than their peers.
We’ve seen it in real life. Members over 50 crushing workouts and making those 20 years younger jealous.
So if you’re in your 40s (or beyond) and wondering if you missed the boat, the answer is NO. The boat is right here. It’s jacked, and it has your name on it.
Strength Training Over 40: 3 Things You Gotta Know
- Consistency > Perfection: This isn’t about grinding daily or going beast mode. It’s about showing up 3-4x a week and doing the right things regularly. Train consistently and your body WILL change. Skip a month? You’ll lose momentum, the habit and progress.
- Train Smart, Not Just Hard: You don’t need to deadlift a small car. But you do need a plan. Too much can be counterproductive. Too little and nothing happens. That’s where our coaches come in — we program every session with progression and coach you through the warm-up to cool-down so you don’t have to overthink it.
- Food = Fuel: Want strength? You’ll need to feed the machine. Protein is key, but carbs and fats matter too. Calories will determine what your weight does, but the macronutrient breakdown of those calories will determine what you look like and how you feel and the results you will see. We’ll help you figure out exactly what your body needs to get stronger, without the food guilt or fad diets.
The bottom line: two things are needed to build strength/muscle: Progressive strength training and adequate protein. You can’t out train with a lacking diet and you can’t get stronger by just eating (we wish!…kinda…lifting IS pretty fun after all ;p).
